All assessments listed are used throughout the four terms of the school year. The skills and units taught are listed on the attached sheets. The sequence of skills taught depends upon the needs of the children in a particular class.
Spelling homework- once a week written- studying nightly
Please check your child’s math homework each night it is assigned and sign it before they put it in their folder to bring to school. Have them correct any mistakes. Let the teacher know if your child is having great difficulty with homework assignments. We’re very willing to be flexible about modifying assignments to meet your child’s needs. You can also help by requiring that the homework be done in a reasonably neat fashion. Homework often changes as the year progresses. Special projects may occasionally be assigned.
Miscellaneous Notes
Please make sure to send in a note if your child will be picked up. If your child needs to be picked up every day, or will always be picked up on a particular day of the week, one note to inform us of this fact is sufficient.
Mark all school supplies (scissors, glue, folder, etc.) with your child’s name to avoid loss.
Check your child’s folder or bag daily to make sure you get notices and papers which help you keep track of school happenings and your child’s progress. Help your child be responsible about homework by making sure it gets in his/her folder and backpack so it arrives promptly at school.
Please feel free to drop us a note or phone us at school
about any problems your child is experiencing. Many problems can be cleared up quickly with some direct communication. The best time to phone is between 8 and 8:15 in the morning or from 2:45 to 3:00 in the afternoon.
Conferences are scheduled in late November and take the place of a first term report card. Other conferences are scheduled on an as-needed basis throughout the school year.
Book club orders are optional. Sometimes children do not inform parents of this fact. We send them home because the book companies provide free books according to how many books we order and it is a way of providing a classroom library.
Please try to make sure children have a snack each day to avoid "snack-time trauma." The office does allow children to borrow lunch money if they forget, but the borrowing should be kept to a minimum and promptly repaid. Children may not borrow money for the snacks that are sold in the cafeteria.
Our new healthy foods policy does not allow food to be sent in for birthday treats. It is acceptable to send in pencils, stickers, or a classroom book as a birthday remembrance.
Let the teacher know as soon as possible about any allergies or other special health issues your child may have. The school nurse should also be informed.
The Second Grade Teachers are looking forward to working with your child this year and are confident that we can work together to provide your child with a positive and productive second grade experience.
