Our Holiday Show was an incredible success! All the grades did a wonderful job with their performances, along with our preschool that did a song of their own. The sing along was also a lot of fun!

Many new drums and bells and things have arrived and all the grades have been enjoying them. Students are practicing rhythms, echoing myself and making up their own for the class to echo. Fifth grade is working on traditional African rhythms from Ghana.

New bells have arrived so that we can play patterns along with songs. Third grade is making up patterns of their own. Fourth grade is playing along with recordings mixing recorder, voice and mallet instruments from arrangements I have written.

Kindergarten through second grade is learning song games to help them learn rhythms, melodies and steady beats. Through actions that follow the song,  they are learning creative thinking by changing words and actions in songs.

We are looking forward to an exciting spring with lots more singing, playing and learning to come. A music history unit is in the works, so we’ll be looking forward as well as back in music.
